A voter ID card is an important document, it is not only used for casting your vote but it can be used as a proof of identity. Earlier when the Aadhaar card was not in existence Voter ID was mainly used as identity proof for the opening of a bank account, for passport applications, getting a new mobile number, or any other services where proof of identity or proof of address was required.
A person’s Name, Date of Birth, and Address are mentioned on the Voter ID card. If by mistake you have the wrong name printed on your Voter ID, if there is a spelling mistake in the name on your Voter ID or you have forgotten to add your surname to the Voter ID then you can apply for a change name in voter id card online. The process to change name in Voter ID is a simple task now as you can update your name in Voter ID online by sitting at home with the use of a mobile or laptop and the internet.

Online Process to Update Name in Voter ID Card
Step 1: Open National Voter’sService Portal https://www.nvsp.in/
Step 2: Log in with your Username and Password
Step 3: Click on “Correction in Personal Details” from the left side menu item
Step 4: Choose Self if you are requesting the name change for yourself, choose family member if you are requesting a name change in voter id for a family member.
Step 5: If you have chosen Self in the previous step a Form 8 will open with prefilled details of yourself and if you have chosen Family member in the previous step you will be asked to enter the Voter Id number of the family member after which a prefilled Form8 will open with details of a family member for whom you want to update name in Voter Id card.
Step 6: In Column E, tick the Name box
Step 7: Enter the correct Name and Surname in Applicant’s details in Column F
Step 8: Upload the document supporting your claim to change name on your voter id card in JPEG format.
Step 9: Fill in Email, Mobile Number, Place, Captcha, and Click Submit
Once you have submitted the form to update the name on your Voter Id Card online you will be provided with a reference ID which can be used to track the status of the Voter ID name Change request.
How To Track Status of Voter ID Name Change Request
Tracking the status of name change in Voter ID card application is quiet easy and can be done online also. To check the status of Voter ID name change request follow the steps mentioned below.
Step 1: Open the NVSP Portal https://www.nvsp.in/
Step 2: Click on Track Application Status
Step 3: You will be asked to Enter the reference ID, Enter the Reference ID provided to you at the time of application and Click the Track Status button
