PAN Card Application

Any Indian citizen must have a PAN card to prove their identity and, more importantly, for tax purposes. With the aid of the internet, the Indian Income Tax Department has facilitated PAN card applications over the years.

Given the income tax department’s assignment, protean eGov Technologies Limited (formerly NSDL) will primarily handle online PAN card applications. The IT Department has additionally chosen UTI Infrastructure and Services Limited (UTIISL) to take PAN card applications.

Several organizations are working at the district level to provide PAN cards for applications, accepting and processing the applications before giving the cards to the clients.

How To Apply For PAN Card

Both online and offline processes are available for applying for a PAN card. You can visit Protean eGov Technologies Limited’s (formerly NSDL’s) official website to apply for the card online and fill out the required information. You must download the application form to submit it offline.

This list of organizations eligible for PAN cards under Section 139A of the Income Tax Act is provided in case you are still debating whether to apply.

  • Whoever has a yearly income total that exceeds the non-taxable income cap.
  • An entrepreneur with yearly revenue of more than Rs. 5 lakh.
  • Whenever a Hindu Undivided Family (HUF) is involved, the Karta, or family head, is required to sign.
  • Regardless of its type—sole proprietorship, LLP, AOP/BOI, etc.
  • Any association, trust, or organization that promotes charity.

You must request a PAN card for any minor who could become a future taxpayer. You can see from this that there are no restrictions on application. However, most NRIs and citizens of India are required to obtain this document.

However, because there are so many different types of PAN card holders, the authorities have developed some segregations to distinguish between PAN card types.

You will include no pictures or information about the father on a PAN card for a business. Additionally, the company name is substituted for the cardholder’s name, and the cardholder’s birthdate is replaced with the company’s registration date.

Unfortunately, cardholders frequently discover discrepancies in the data on PAN cards. However, there is good news: the authorities provide options for these details to be corrected, including a PAN card address change and a PAN card name change.

Online PAN Card Application Process

The procedures to be followed to apply for a PAN card are as follows:

Step 1: Go to Protean eGov Technologies Limited’s (formerly NSDL’s) website to apply for a PAN card online and fill out the necessary forms.

Step 3: After finishing, you must choose a “Category.” There are options in the category list for individuals, businesses, people connected to others, Hindu Undivided Families, Trusts, Limited Liability Partnerships, local governments, etc.

Step 4: You must enter your information after selecting the following options.

The following sections require the following information:

  • Title

Process for Offline PAN Card Application

The procedures to be followed to apply for a PAN card using offline processes are as follows:

Step 1: You must download Form 49A from the Income Tax Department of India’s official website or visit any UTIISL-managed Income Tax PAN service centers.

Step 2: Complete the form’s eight pages’ worth of sections.

Step 3: After completing it, you must send the application form and a demand draft for Rs. 107, including tax.

Step 4: A further payment of Rs. 887 is required if the PAN application needs to be sent outside of India.

You must send the form to the Income Tax Pan Services Unit (Managed by Protean eGov Technologies Limited e-Governance, Infrastructure Limited), 5th Floor, Mantri Sterling, Plot No. 341, Survey No. 997/8, Model Colony, Near Deep Bungalow Chowk, Pune 411 016 along with a copy of your identification and proof of address.

PAN card application documents

Your identity, date of birth, and address should all be verified in the documents needed to apply for a PAN card in one of these categories.

On the official NDSL and UTIITSL websites, you can find the application forms for each of these categories.

You must submit the following papers with the application:

  • Aadhar Card
  • Passport
  • Passport size photographs
  • Acknowledgment letter (in case of new access)

Application fees for PAN cards

Different fees and charges may be assessed depending on the application submitted to the Income Tax Department of India. For instance, when applying online, the price for a new PAN card is Rs.107, which you must pay as a demand draft. Indian nationality is required for this.

The fees vary depending on the application you submit for the card, whether you are an Indian or foreign citizen, or whether you are requesting changes. A postal fee is also assessed if you select the option to have the card delivered to your address.

How to determine the status of a PAN

You can check the status of your PAN card application in several ways. The most obvious way to find out is to use the 15-digit acknowledgment number you must have received after submitting a successful application.

Here’s how to go about doing it.

  • Step 1: Go to the NSDL website’s main page.
  • Step 2: Choose “Track PAN Status” from the menu.
  • Step 3: Under “Application Type,” click “PAN-New/Change Request.”
  • Step 4: Enter your acknowledgment number, which is 15 digits long.
  • Step 5: Type in the security code and press “Submit.”

You will show your PAN application status on the following screen.

Now that the ordeal is over and you have received the document, you might be curious to see what a physical card might appear. In this case, you also get some information about that!

Can you make changes to your current PAN card?

Yes, you can amend the current PAN card. Refer to the section on how to apply for a PAN card online if any of the information on your issued PAN card needs to be corrected. Until Step 3, follow directions, and carry out the next steps.

  • Select “Changes or Correction in the Existing PAN Card” under “Application Type.”
  • Complete the PAN card correction form on the following page with accurate information.
  • Click “Submit” after you have uploaded all required documents.
  • Make the necessary payment.

You will now deliver a new acknowledgment slip to you. Print it out, then mail it to the Income Tax PAN Service Unit of NSDL.

It’s one thing to have a Pan card with incorrect information; it’s another to lose it entirely. And what’s this? You’ve got an answer for that as well now.

What if I misplace my PAN?

Stop worrying if your PAN card has been stolen or lost! Instead, proceed to Step 3 of the online PAN card application process after Step 2 to request a duplicate of this document.

  • Under “Application Type,” choose “Reprint of PAN card (No changes in existing PAN data)” from the drop-down menu.
  • Complete all required fields with accurate information, upload all the necessary files and submit.
  • Utilize the provided payment gateways to pay the required fees.

The procedures after your previous fresh application are followed when issuing a duplicate PAN card.

Remember to connect your PAN card to your bank account now that you have one, whether original or duplicated.

You can also start an offline procedure to get a duplicate PAN card. Simply pick up a form at one of the PAN centers, TIN-Facilitation Centers, or IT PAN Service Centers to get started. Complete this form, pay the small fee, and click submit to submit your application.
